The importance of technical-scientific subjects for the future of the country was the focus of "Futureproof: The Value of STEM Skills," an event held yesterday at Binario F. The Fondazione Mondo Digitale participated with Elisa Amorelli, Institutional Relations Coordinator, who emphasised the challenge of inclusion. The event was also attended by Domenica, 26, who is participating in the digital civil service with the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and Assifero. This is her short story about our shared morning of work.
Various personalities from the academic, institutional, and entrepreneurial world participated in the event, including: Angelo Mazzetti, Head of Institutional Relations Italy and Greece, Meta; Federico Mollicone, President of the Culture Commission; Walter Rizzetto, President of the Labour Commission; Marta Schifone, “Fratelli d'Italia” Coordinator for the Labour Commisison at the Chamber of Deputies and first signatory of the Bill for a STEM Week; Nello Iacono, Digital Republic Programme Coordinator; and content creators Gian Marco D'Eusebi and Amer Nour. The event was moderated by the Director of Formiche, Flavia Giacobbe.
The debate focused on the opportunities created by the publication of the Guidelines on STEM and the first national week dedicated to STEM, which aim to launch stable post-school orientation courses from the first levels of education, the promotion of training courses for school staff, and extracurricular initiatives, as well as scholarships and training courses to encourage reintegration into the job market, especially for women. Elisa Amorelli shared the objectives of Project Coding Girls, now in its tenth edition, which trains young generations in Steam courses from early school years thanks to its transversal alliances.
The objecive is to bridge the STEM skills gap in Italy and prepare the new generations for the challenges of the future. As MP Schifone recalled: "Stem skills are crucial for economic growth and innovation in our country. We must invest in the education of our youth to make them competitive on a global level." In her speech, she also underlined the importance of the role of politics: "Politics has a greater penetration capacity than other channels, so it is essential to send clear, strong messages. With Stem week we want to tell the stories of the great women in science and ensure that the new generations, especially young women, feel inspired and encouraged to follow in their footsteps."
