The Fox and the Grapes

"... I was able to ascertain the active participation of all children. In particular, I noticed how even those children who usually hold back, who are not as exuberant as others, participated, too. This is certainly thanks to the Educator, Valeria Cristino, who with patience, notwithstanding the issues due to connection and audio problems, managed to stoke the children’s curiosity and drive them to complete the distance learning course.”

The FMD received this unexpected, but very welcome e-mail from Daniela Caruso, a teacher and digital coordinator at the Istituto Rita Levi Montalcini in Buccinasco, one of the schools participating in Project Collegamenti Digitali (Digital Connections)  promoted on-line with IIS Falcone-Righi in Corsico and the City of Milan, and developed with the support of the Fondazione di Comunità Milano – Città, Sud Ovest, Sud Est, Martesana onlus.

“Moreover, given the complications of distance learning, the project had an even more positive value on the children.”

Children from four year four classes (Sections A, C, D, E) participated in the guided creation of a videogame of Aesop’s famous “The Fox and the Grapes” fable by using Scratch.

“During the two 2-hour meetings, the children were encouraged not to just follow the instructions, but to truly understand why given instructions lead to characters performing specific actions.”
