The experience of the Istituto comprensivo Fiano Romano with CS First.

As part of Project Computer Science First, the Istituto comprensivo Fiano Romano, a school coordinated by Daniela Librandi, stands out for its pioneering approach to the teaching of digital skills.

Adele Mazzetta, Italian, History, and Geography professor, and Stefania Cefalo, digital coordinator, have enthusiastically shared their experiences that mark the transformative potential of the CS First Platform.

Adele Mazzetta describes how the “Animating a Name” activity has opened up new outlooks for digital didactic activities, allowing students to explore and develop their skills in a creative and fun manner. The experience has also revealed how programming can be a powerful tool for personal expression, allowing students to tells stories through coding projects.

Stefania Cefalo underlines the importance of integrating coding into core subjects, as demonstrated by Project “STEM and Coding,” which allowed students to learn coding languages by contextualising them in different subjects, such as geography, to enrich their education.

Project CS First also played a crucial role in improving Stefania’s didactic approach, introducing greater motivation and enthusiasm that transformed the learning environment. The platform has allowed students more organisation and sharing, simplifying collaboration and monitoring of their progress.

Moreover, the interview has revealed how the project has promoted inclusion and support for students with special needs, providing them with the opportunity to learn from their peers’ projects and participate actively in school life.

With a focus on lifelong learning and the promotion of an exciting didactic model, Project CS First aims to catalyse change in the Italian educational panorama. The activities, which include webinars, MOOCs, digital rooms, and labs, have provided teachers with the opportunity to experiment with new models of collaborative learning and sharing didactic practices and experiences, fundamental resources to develop a knowledge of technology and help youth develop both digital and soft skills.
