Educational Poverty

While schools in four cities – Milan, Bari, Reggio Calabria and Palermo – are equipping their Phyrtual Innovation Gyms, the Istituto comprensivo B. Grimaldi - L. Lombardi in Bari, directed by Giuseppina Pastore, is set to kick off the first lab activities for OpenSpace, the project selected by Con i Bambini  for the Fund to contrast the educational poverty of minors (Bando Adolescenza).

In fact, the project objectives include the installation of Phyrtual Innovation Gyms, physical environments for experiential learning with a high technological content. The first modular area set up at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym in Bari is the Video Lab, a videomaking, 3D modelling and animation, visual effects, post-production and stop motion lab. The facility, which is open to all citizens, will be equipped for a variety of activities, ranging from the creation of cartoons for young children to professional green screen filming and 3D short features for older children from video conception, screenplay, production and post-production all the way through stereoscopic filming.

Fiammetta Castagnini, a sound engineer and coach at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym in Rome, will be at the school all week to help with the preparation of the facility, explain the work of the various instruments (video cameras, green screens, etc.) and hold the first labs for students in five Year 1 classes and their teachers. Coordinators for the OpenSpace activities in Bari Antonella Fumai and Professor Antonella Taldone.

The Phyrtual Innovation Gym under construction in the San Paolo Neighbourhood will also have a Robotics Lab, a Fab Lab and an Activity Space. The facility will be organised in agreement with the schools, beginning with existing resources to improve them based on educational objectives [see news Inspection in Bari]. The Fab Lab, for example, will be installed in an unused space, while the Video Lab will begin as a specialised area in the school Astronomy Lab with new tools for observing reality from different perspectives and points of view, near and far. Another multi-functional area will host coding activities.

The various activities of the other partners will be documented on the Percorsiconibambini.it Blog, an on-line space for projects selected by “Con i Bambini” as part of the Fund to contrast the educational poverty of minors.
