Discover how artificial intelligence works

Ital.IA Lab, today the first module of the ‘GenerAzione IA: il futuro è già oggi’ (Generating AI: the future is already here) programme

‘Find out what AI is, how it works and why it is revolutionising our world’. In a few hours, almost 2,000 students attending schools all over Italy will connect to follow the first webinar of the training course GenerAzione IA: il futuro è già oggi (AI Generation: the future is already today).

The entire proposal, part of the Ital.IA Lab programme created with Microsoft, is organised into five modules:

  • AI: AN ONGOING REVOLUTION
    13/02/2025, 9.30-10.30
Find out what AI is, how it works and why it is revolutionising our world
  • AI AND HUMAN-MACHINE INTERACTION
    18/02/2025, 9-10
Explore the design of human-machine interaction and design dialogues for chatbots.
  • BECOME A MASTER OF PROMPTING
    24/02/2025, 9–10 am
Learn practical techniques to make the best use of generative AI tools.
  • ETHICS AND AI: RIGHT OR WRONG?
    4/03/2025, 10.30-11.30
Analyse the ethical implications of AI and discover how to promote its responsible use
  • THE JOB OF THE FUTURE
    10/03/2025, 11–12
Explore how AI is transforming the world of work and the skills required.

At the end of the course, participants will receive a micro-certification (digital badge) validated by Roma Tre University, attesting to the skills acquired. An added value for personal and professional growth. The course also includes recognition of workshop hours for the Pathways for Transversal Skills and Orientation (Pcto).

The project is not only aimed at students, but also involves teachers and parents. Teachers are given practical tools to integrate AI into their teaching, while parents are invited to explore how AI can support their children's learning and career choices.

Happy learning to all!

From a human-centred approach, AI tools should be designed to extend or enhance human intellectual and social capacities, and not to undermine, conflict with or replace them. It has long been anticipated that AI tools could be further integrated as an integral part of the means available to humans to support analysis and action for a more inclusive and sustainable future.
For AI to become a reliable part of human-machine collaboration – at the individual, institutional and system levels – the human-centred approach, informed by the 2021 UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of AI, must be further developed and implemented according to the specific characteristics of emerging technologies such as GenIA. Only in this way can we ensure that GenIA becomes a reliable tool for researchers, teachers and students.

While GenIA should be used to serve education and research, we must all be aware that GenIA could also change established systems and their foundations in these sectors. The transformation of education and research that could be triggered by GenIA, if it exists, should be rigorously examined and guided by a human-centred approach. Only in this way can we ensure that the potential of AI, in particular, and all other categories of technologies used in education more broadly, enhance human capabilities to build a truly inclusive digital future.
