The digital bridge that unites Rome with the schools of the Saharawi Refugee Camps in the Algerian desert and the schools in the Region of Fontem in Cameroon exhibits different characteristics for each of the Roman schools participating in the Digital Bridge Project coordinated by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. The end of the school year is the perfect point for students and teachers to review their activities and plan for the next academic year.
For example, Prof. Antonio Bonanni (ITIS H. Hertz) announced that his students have collected ten crates of school materials to donate to the twinned school in Cameroon (GTHS Alou). The material includes pencils, pens, notebooks, erasers and sharpeners that will be shipped to the students thanks to the help and coordination of LATS, the local project partners, administered by Martin Nkafu.
The students per their own initiative collected the material as this was not part of the planned school activities. This proves that youth are really the main protagonists of the peer cooperation that has developed through the project.
The same spirit is evident in the students and teachers at the Santa Beatrice Primary School who exhibited the works created for the Open Day on Water that was held on May 21 at the school.
While logistical problems occurred for the creation of the digital bridge (customs, hostile climactic conditions, etc.), the bridge of solidarity amongst Roman and African schools is solid and real for hundreds of people: students, their families, teachers, school administrators and ATA personnel, who are all now “connected” to the African Schools.
