On February 1, a new cycle of webinars entitled “Thunkable for School,” started as part of the 8th edition of Coding Girls. On-line training activities help participants learn more about the free development environment for the creation of Android and iOS apps, after independent work and role modelling sessions (twice a month).
Appointments in February will be held on the Microsoft Live Event Platform with Coach Lara Forgione.
1st Webinar
Introduction to Development Environments
Tuesday, Feb. 1, 3:30-5:30
The coach will introduce students to Thunkable, exploring the design editor, block editor and its components (buttons, textboxes, labels, images, sliders, spinners, clock, notifiers, etc.), as well as fundamental parameters, additional components and media upload options. Practical examples will allow participants to simulate various commands and gain familiarity with the development environment.
2nd Webinar
A Case Study
Thursday, Feb. 10, 3:30-5:30
Analysing an app developed with Thunkable, as well as its structure, operation and use, provides participants with a useful model of an app designed to incentivise a given type of user behaviour. This meeting will also serve to focus on some further functions of Thunkable, such as the insertion of AI elements and the import/export of the app in “apk” format (installable) or “aia” (Thunkable read/write).
3rd Webinar
Designing an App for Changemaking
Tuesday, Feb. 22, 3:30-5:30
A guided process of design thinking will allow the participants, organised in teams, to design the basis of their app project. Each team will select a young woman as a team leader, who will coordinate work and interact with the tutor for support. The app must conform to give criteria (trust in science and sustainability), innovation and usability. The apps will be judged by a specialised jury.
