The first edition of the Maker Faire Rome is promomted by the Rome Chamber of Commerce - Asset Camera and World Wide Rome in collaboration with Arduino and the Make magazine. The European edition of the fair will be held at the Palazzo dei Congressi on October 3-6, 2013.
It will be an interactive experience, a place for exhibitions, workshops, presentations and performances. The protagonists will be young people who will discover and experience hands-on what we can and what we will be able to do with the right certainty, creativity and technology.
Makers have been called 21st century craftsmen, technological hobbyists that rely on creativity, innovation and problem solving. These are all competences that must be acquired, possibly from a young age, in school. This is 21st Century Education.
What is 21st Century Education? Alfonso Molina, Professor of Technology Strategy at the University of Edinburgh and Scientific Director of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale defines it as “a set of activities that allow young people of all ages to develop the right competences to live and work in the 21st century such as creativity, problem solving, group work and social responsibility. They are all competences that are often not included in standard school curricula, but that must be an integral part of any innovative didactic programme aiming to prepare our youth for the challenges of the future.”
The Fondazione Mondo Digitale will participate in this great initiative with Educational Robotics, an excellent example of how practical, logical-creative and group activities can serve as an important stimulus for young people.
