A new course and tutoring programme begins at the Cpia 2 Italo Calvino Fab Lab in Rome (Via Vitaliano Ponti, 40) as part of Project “VerImago LAB! – Creative Languages between Words and Images” funded by the Creative Suburbs Call - National Digital School Plan.
Matteo Viscogliosi and Daniele Vigo, coaches and makers at the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, will meet with students and professors at the CPIA 2 to introduce them to the use, management and maintenance of digital lab devices (laser cutters, plotters, 3D printers).
Together with the teachers, they will explore the potential of Fab Labs for the development of projects and didactic activities, even in connection with other subjects.
Students will have the opportunity to learn how to use the devices and controlling software programmes to develop educational projects and products and make learning more creative and fun.
The seven-module course (3.5 hours each) will address:
- Introduction to Fab Lab philosophy. Overview of devices and field of applications. Discussion and choice of project to develop.
- How to design in 2D and 3D. Tinkercad: explanation of software practical exercise.
- Definition of project. Focus on Tinkercad, overview of reference open-source websites and practical exercise.
- Development of project with Tinkercad, initial experiments with devices based on developed models.
- Development of project with Tinkercad. Definition of models and exportation formats. Test of developed models.
- Prototyping of projects: printing and/or cutting of produced models.
- Conclusion, prototyping of projects: printing and/or cutting of produced models and assembly.
