The Cornerstone

The Cornerstone

The Cornerstone

“School is not an accessory, but an absolute necessity for a recovery plan.” The chapter dedicated to “School and Education” in the 7th Annual FPA ReportMichela Stentella, Editor-in-Chief of forumpa.it, begins with a quotation of Italian President Sergio Mattarella. The section on "From Schools to Local Communities – Education as a Cornerstone for the Recovery,” also includes a contribution by Mirta Michilli, Director General of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, ever since its creation as the former “Consorzio Gioventù Digitale.”

One solution is to develop “facilitating contexts” that will promote incremental innovation processes, motivating teachers and the educational community. Measuring achievable, visible and quantifiable goals – first wins – helps us to develop resilience and antifragility, as well as to face the ongoing health emergency without losing sight of an ideal: developing a democratic knowledge society that excludes no one. Indeed, today the challenge is not to reach everyone, but to contact each one with custom-tailored education.

Economists and enlightened scholars warn us that if we do not act lucidly, the issues in our school systems may provoke the same disastrous effects of a great recession. Therefore, we require a true educational ecosystem as no individual subject, no sole educational agency, can face and resolve the multidimensional phenomenon of educational poverty alone.
