STEAM labs for primary and first-degree secondary school continue at the Istituto comprensivo Melissa Bassi in Tor Bella Monaca, at the  Innovation Gym developed thanks to Programme Smart & Heart Rome, supported by the City of Rome.

 

Today, the students are participating in a Tinkering Lab for Young Inventors, guided by Coach Irene Caretti.

 

The children invent, build and experiment with their ideas. They discover that as projects become more complex, it is easier to make mistakes. Failure, however, is considered a positive value and every new attempt is transformed into a step towards success and personal growth.

Tinkering Lab for Young Inventors

The Istituto Comprensivo Melissa Bassi is directed by Alessandra Scamardella. The school operates in an area that is characterised by a “strong lack of services and structures for recreational and cultural uses. The only cultural hub is the school itself. It provides spaces and opportunities for aggregation and the growth of students and their families (from the School’s PTOF).

 

 

  GOING BACK IN TIME ...

 

In the video produced by Alberta Testa at the outset of the three-year Smart & Heart Rome ProgrammeGiovanna Cipolla shows the school areas chosen to host the digital learning environments of the Innovation Gym, including a small digital manufacturing lab.

 

Prof. Serafina Le Fosse explains the central nature of the school in the project, as a hub for all local services to citizens. “The school is the driving centre of innovation.” And only school can bridge the digital gap ...
