Here is some more information on the teams that are participating in the Robotics World Championships in Eindhoven, Holland: Robocup Junior 2013.
The students from ITIS Archimede in Catania aim to mesmerize the international Cospace Theatre jury with the music and scenes from "The Millionaire" and challenge the other teams from around the world.
The robots are remotely controlled via a relatively complex technology called Zigbee that interfaces with a programme that manages the robots and their virtual choreographies. Even virtual robots have to be programmed, creating a series of Theatre scenes, via detailed movements of the 16 virtual motors in each humanoid robot. This adds up to over 4000 programming steps – virtual and real - for each robot! The stage is 5 meters wide and 2 high; the backdrop depicts trains and an Indian mosque. Moreover, the students used high-luminosity LEDs to obtain a ten-level V-meter effect that follows the beat of the music. Students on the team are: Davide Anastasi, Salvatore Pagano e Marco Scirocco.
Two RomeCup winning teams participated in the Soccer category scuole: ITIS Galilei, Rome and ISS Von Neumann, Rome. SPQR Gravis will participate in the open league category, while the second placed team, SPQR Levis, will compete in the lightweight category.
Although the students compete in different categories, they will use similar robots. Open league robots can weigh up to 2.2 kg., while lightweight robots can weigh no more than 1.1 kb. They play on the same type of field and with the same ball. The students left for Holland with 4 completely new robots and two that werwe used during the last championship.
ISS Von Neumann sent 4 students, while ITIS Galilei sent 5, two of which participated in the last championship in Mexico, while the other three are at their first experience.
Scores for both categories will be on-line soon.
