Yesterday, Wednesday November 19, the students at the IIS Federico CaffèSchool met with the elders from the Donna Olimpia elderly centre for Project ComeON! – Promoting Social Innovation in Communities through Intergenerational Volunteering.
Marcello Mariuzzo, Vice President of the Lunaria Assocation, and Barbara Quarta from the Fondazione Mondo Digitale presented the European project that has been developed in collaboration with the Fundetec Foundation (Spain), School Inspectorate of Iasi County (Romania), Budapest Cultural Centre (Hungary) and International Child Development Initiatives (the Netherlands).
Headmaster Marina Pacetti is enthusiastic about the idea of creating new bridges between generations, a fundamental experience for the future of our youth.
Anna Valdisseri, Coordinator of the elderly centre in Rome’s 12th District, added: “It surely will enrich both parties.”
Thanks to ComeON!, the students will be able to study the problems of their neighbourhoods together with the elders and try to solve them.
During the event, the young and older participants guided by Prof. Antonello Paba met for the first time to start their new adventure.
The next step will be to increase group cohesion through further meetings and activities. The results will be produced together. Students and elders will study social innovation projects that will be published on the www.phyrtual.org platform.
