Caps 2014, the first international event on collective awareness platforms for sustainability and social innovation, begins tomorrow in Brussels.
CAPS (Collective Awareness Platforms for Sustainability and Social Innovation) are a new type of platform based on ICT systems that exploit the emerging “network effect” to combine the diffusion and virality of social media with the distribution of knowledge and data (Internet of Things) to create new forms of social innovation.
These platforms allow users to share basic knowledge and good practices that can lead to true change in life styles, production and consumption, besides promoting more participative, democratic processes.
The programme is rich and varied. On July 1, The Egg in Brussels will host workshops and round tables, as well as a BarCamp in which all participants will be able to present their ideas and activities on CAPS.
On July 2, Robert Madelin, Director General of the European Commission DG Connect, will open the works of CAPS2014, addressing major social, economic and technological issues, as well as illustrating projects and initiatives, including the second CAPS call in the Horizon 2020 Programme.
