Coding in a Post-it

Coding in a Post-it

Last Sunday, while waiting for the “white smoke” as US coach Ashley Gavin renamed the announcement of the hackathon-winning team, the young women were asked to summarise their experience at Coding Girls Rome-USA on a post-it that would be attached to a mobile billboard, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale’s totem.

Here are some of the post-its from the students who participated in the school coding labs, the press conference and the final hackathon:

It was a fantastic experience. We met new people and were challenged with ha fun game. I wish it had lasted longer. I didn’t want to leave!

Thanks to Ashley and Elizabeth and all the Fondazione Mondo Digitale for this fantastic opportunity. It was a unique and unrepeatable experience

I loved every single minute of it. Even when all hopes were lost there was still a really amazing atmosphere. I loved coding even if it was my first approach to it and i think i will be a computer scientist one day. Thank you all.

It was fun and amazing. I couldn’t believe the results I obtained with my “sisters!” I wish it had lasted longer!

I’d like to thank everyone for this experience. It will be a reference point for my future.

I always wondered how those games were made … and now that I’ve done it, I feel incredibly proud :=)

Coding girls was a lot of fun! I was really inspired by the enthusiasm of the girls here in Rome!

During these days I learn that i can make things that i couldn't before, like coding. I discovered it's really funny! PS frustration is our friend

I couldn't believe, i could finish the project but i did it. It was an amazing experience.

I like so much coding!! and fell very close to my new coding friend. thanks. It was a great experience! computer science is a whole new world to me now. I'm very proud of what i've done and i hope this won't be the last.

It was amazing! I'd like this not end TODAY! Thank you all!!!

It was a beautiful and interesting experience that must certainly be organized again for students.

It was great fun to write programs, learn new things and meet new friends.

As part of the Italian Semester of Presidency of the European Union Council and for European Code Week, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and the American Embassy in Italy, in collaboration with the US Girls Who Code Association, promoted Coding Girls Rome-USA, an eight-day long event (Oct. 12-19, 2014) fully dedicated to young girls and women in primary and secondary school. The project was also sponsored by Miur, Roma Capitale, Sapienza University Computer Science Department and Microsoft.
