The all-female hackathon begins today with the teams from Rome and Naples that have participated in the week of laboratories. Moreover, an invitation was recently extended to young women in all schools.
The hackathon is part of Project Coding Girls, conceived to attract young women to technological pursuits [see news: Coding and Technology].
The coding marathon addresses young women aged 13 and above who are interested in new technology to join in teams and have fun by developing a game with Scratch … but not only.
In order to overcome gender stereotypes and attract young women to a career in coding, Coding Girls allows young students to experiment with the use of new technology and learn about positive models that can be emulated [see news: Hackathon Coaches].
Today and tomorrow, younger and older female students will be at work with Scratch, a free programming language developed by the Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab. Scratch, in fact, is a simple and fun way to create interactive stories, games and cartoons and share them on the web.
The hackathon will continue into Sunday. After the development and debates, the most original efficient and innovative ideas will receive prizes.
