Coding Girls in Milan

After stopping in Naples, Rome, and Catania, the original all-female educational tour promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and the United States Mission in Italy in collaboration with Microsoft, arrives in Milan.

The two-day programme (Nov. 16-17) will include intensive training sessions in schools and a coding marathon at the Politecnico di Milano with Councillor Roberta Cocco and American Consul Kim M. Natoli

The fourth edition of the Coding Girls Programme, which aims to overcome gender stereotypes, interest women in coding and allow female students to experiment with technology hands-on, will end in Milan on November 17. The programme is promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and the United States Diplomatic Mission in Italy in collaboration with Microsoft.

A series of intensive training sessions and the hackathon are the tools provided to the coaches, coordinated by Emily Thomforde, Code Educator and Science Technology Engineering Art and Mathematics (STEAM) Specialist, to interest young women in scientific subjects and fight the gender gap.

Over 120 young women from ITAS Natta, IIS Falcone-Righi, ITIS Feltrinelli, and LAS Brera in Milan will work on rational thinking with coding exercises on November 16. Block after block, the girls will train for the coding marathon that will be held on Nov. 17 at the Milan Politecnico Bovisa Campus (Via Candiani n. 72).

The young women will be encouraged to pursue this special adventure by

Roberta Cocco, Milan Digital Transformation and Civic Services Councillor and Coding Girls Ambassador, and Kim M. Natoli, Press and Culture Consul for the United States General Consulate in Milan.

After Naples, Rome and Catania, Milan is the last leg of the Coding Girls Tour, but, like in the other cities the challenge will not end with the tour. Each school involved in the programme will create a Club Coding Girls, in which the young women will be able to act as mentors and organised coding meetings for their peers.
