Catania was the final stop for the Educational Tour of Coding Girls, programme promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and the United States Diplomatic Mission to Italy in collaboration with Microsoft to fight gender stereotypes in the scientific and technological fields and promote the access of young women to STEAM.

At the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Catania, over 100 young women were welcomed by Giovanni Gallo, Department Director, and Maria Eloisa Castagna, Technology Development Staff Engineer, Member of Technical Staff, STMicroelectronics.

As the subject of the last hackathon, American supercoach Emily Thomforde (Code Educator and Science Technology Engineering Art and Mathematics Specialist) opted for the word “Thanks” to show her gratitude for all the schools that accepted to participate in the project, the universities, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, the American Embassy in Italy and all those who participated in this initiative.

The students (from second-degree secondary schools Galilei, Marconi, Mangano, Principe Umberto, Archimede) received their awards from Filippo Stanco, Computer Science Programme Coordinator at the University of Catania and Daniela Averna, Regional President, ADI.
