Intensive training sessions to prepare the young women in Palermo for the creative programming challenge were held at the following schools: Catalano, Pio La Torre, Umberto I and Croce. Then, 100 students, were guided by American super coach Anthonette Peña, National Board Certified Teacher and STEM Teacher Lead, for the hackathon at the University of Palermo on “If I had a time machine …”
The Coding Girls Programme, promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and the United States Embassy in Italy in collaboration with Microsoft Italy, aims to promote gender equality in science and technology. The sixth edition will be held on November 5-22 and will involve 10,000 young women in 14 Italian cities.
