Back to School in 12 Regions

Today – Monday, September 14 – is the first day of school for students in 12 regions (plus the Province of Trento): Lazio, Emilia Romagna, Lombardy, Molise, Marche, Tuscany, Liguria, Piedmont, Sicily, Umbria. Valle d'Aosta and Veneto.

In Lombardy, the region hit hardest by the coronavirus epidemic, kindergartens opened on September 7, while all other schools start today. Lessons began on September 7 in Alto Adige, too, while in Friuli Friuli Venezia Giulia they will begin on September 16. In other regions, the school year will begin after the elections: September 22 in Sardinia and September 24 in Abruzzo, Campania, Basilicata, Calabria and Puglia.

In Vo' Euganeo, in the Province of Padua, one of the first pandemic emergency zones, classes began on September 7 to prepare for today’s visit by Italian President Sergio Mattarella.

More than 8000 schools, including 8 million students and over 800,000 teachers, have had to reorganise their didactic activities based on the indications of the Ministry of Education.

Notwithstanding the health emergency, we would like to renew our commitment. We will invest in new energy to drive schools to reach everyone and leave no one behind. Over the coming weeks, day after day, we will report on ongoing projects to improve the curricula of schools and guarantee a high-quality inclusive school.

Welcome back to school!
