Rome: Digital Capital: two training sessions at the UPMT in Colli Aniene, combining curiosity, experience and awareness

What can artificial intelligence really do in everyday life? Is it a tool for technical and cognitive growth? Can it also help older people? And how can we prevent it from making human intelligence more fragile, or more ‘dulled’?

These are some of the questions raised during the training course on artificial intelligence organised as part of the Rome Digital Capital project at the Michele Testa People’s University in Colli Aniene. Two sessions, led by trainer Marco Brocchieri, engaged around 25 participants in a lively and active discussion, confirming just how much digital innovation is now part of daily life for all generations.

The session, designed to be practical and accessible, fostered an open dialogue on the opportunities, limitations and implications of AI. Participants brought their curiosity, doubts and personal reflections, helping to transform the session into a shared learning experience. Not merely technical training, then, but an opportunity to reflect together on how emerging technologies can enter people’s lives in a useful, critical and responsible manner.

The discussion highlighted the value of training in local contexts: places where digital skills are not taught in an abstract way, but become tools for understanding the present, navigating change and strengthening participation. The experience at the UPMT in Colli Aniene also demonstrated the vitality of local associations, capable of fostering communities that are curious, knowledgeable and eager to continue creating new opportunities for engagement.

Roma Capitale Digitale, selected and supported by the Fund for the Digital Republic – Social Enterprise, is a widespread training programme promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale ETS as lead partner, in partnership with the Department of Strategic Planning and PNRR of Roma Capitale, AECI APS Lazio, CODICI – Centre for Citizens’ Rights and Observo APS. The project aims to strengthen digital inclusion and informed access to online services, with courses aimed at citizens of all ages and with varying levels of digital literacy.

The meeting at UPMT confirms that digital training is also a relational practice: a way to listen to people’s needs, value their questions and guide citizens towards a more autonomous and informed use of technology.

The collaboration with the association will continue next Tuesday 12 May, at 5 pm, as part of the “Oggi ti racconto…” series, with an event dedicated to the presentation of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and the discussion of potential new initiatives in the local area.
