Coding Girsl Tour: Rethink in Salerno

Artificial intelligence & design thinking at the service of the territory

The Coding Girls tour, the programme designed to help young students freely orient themselves in their studies and in the professions of the future, training in STEAM disciplines, stops in Salerno.

The event is at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Salerno with the hackathon ‘Rethink. Artificial intelligence & design thinking at the service of the community’. Around 450 students from 15 secondary schools in Campania are involved in a creative challenge: to design activities and services that can generate value for the community, using artificial intelligence as a strategic ally.

The hackathon is the final stage of a nine-hour training course carried out as part of Ital.IA Lab, the project of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and Microsoft Italy created to spread the opportunities of generative artificial intelligence and provide the necessary skills to use it in a sustainable and inclusive way, with special attention to women and Southern Italy. The programme, implemented in Campania and Sardinia, involved over 600 students, 19 schools and 15 young tutors including master's degree, doctoral and PhD students from the University of Salerno and Cagliari.

In addition to training and competition, the project offers opportunities for discussion with role models and local companies, creating an important opportunity for guidance and inspiration for the participants, with the aim of promoting fairer access to STEAM careers.
