"I expect the Italian Presidency that has placed youth unemployment amongst the priorities of the Agenda, to pursue at least three major actions: one each for Northern, Central and Southern Italy. Concrete actions that will provide immediate answers to the young people who are excluded from education and labour.” This is the answer that Mirta Michilli, YouthSpark Advisor and Director General of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale provides to the question “What do you expect from the Italian Presidency of the European Union?".
The interview touched upon a variety of issues ranging from youth unemployment to digital skills as a key to success for European youth. “The Neet phenomenon is an epochal challenge for Italy as it threatens to exclude a large part of our youth. Everyone must work towards an immediate solution to this problem.” Nonetheless, Mirta’s is not just a “call for help.” Indeed, with the national Meet No Neet Project, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale is at the forefront of this challenge. Together with Microsoft, the FMD is involved in the global YouthSpark programme to create new job opportunities for over 300 million young people by 2015.
