On 15 September, the online hackathon of the Cybersecurity Seminars programme
After months of training, the time has come to put the skills acquired to the test. Next Monday, 15 September, from 2 to 6 p.m., the hackathon of the Cybersecurity Seminars programme, promoted by Google.org in collaboration with Virtual Routes, the University of Milan and the Mondo Digitale Foundation, will take place online.
Postgraduate students from various faculties will be engaged in devising innovative solutions to address a real-life case related to cybersecurity. This challenge is not only a technical exercise, but also an opportunity for dialogue with experts, practical experimentation and contribution to the spread of a more aware and inclusive culture of digital security.
The day's programme includes welcome greetings from Mirta Michilli, Director General of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, and Pierluigi Perri, Associate Professor of Cybersecurity, Privacy and Sensitive Data Protection at the University of Milan. This will be followed by the launch of the challenge by Advens Italia and an explanation of the rules by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale.
The teams will work in digital rooms to finalise their solutions, which will then be submitted to the jury for evaluation. The winner will be announced at 5.30 p.m.
‘The hackathon marks a key moment in the Cybersecurity Seminars programme, as an experience of practical experimentation and service learning, to transform the knowledge acquired into concrete solutions for the benefit of local communities,’ says Miriam Pintore, who organised the event.
‘The initiative was created with the aim of offering university and postgraduate students new opportunities for professional growth in the field of cybersecurity, with a multidisciplinary approach that combines theory, workshops, group work and activities in the field,’ emphasises director Mirta Michilli. ‘The focus is particularly on the most vulnerable areas: territories and small businesses that are still ill-equipped to deal with cyber risks.’
Cybersecurity Seminars is also a laboratory for inclusion and diversity: not only students of STEM disciplines, but also future professionals from the humanities and social sciences, called upon to collaborate in imagining a more secure and shared digital future.
The hackathon marks the start of a new phase: 40 hours of project work that will allow students to experience the value of teamwork, apply their skills in real-world contexts and help strengthen the culture of digital security in Italy.
