Year of Light

For the International Year of Light, Sapienza University of Rome, in collaboration with the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, has organised an exhibition that will be held between September and October 2015. The aim of the exhibition is to illustrate the many aspects of light to a greater public. From a scientific point of view, the exhibition will emphasise the many phenomena in which light is involved: from geometric and wave optics to quantum mechanics and modern photonic technology (ranging from tele-transport to quantum cryptography).
The Physics of Light, however, will not be the only protagonist of the exhibition that will also address Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology, all disciplines in which light plays a fundamental role. Moreover, the exhibition will also include art works that employ light in a variety of different manners.
The exhibition will include installations that allow visitors to interact with tools and discover the effects of physical, chemical and biological light-related processes. The Fondazione Mondo Digitale will provide its Fab Lab for the construction of showcases and experiments.
The exhibition will be held at a series of prestigious locations in Rome in September-October 2015.
We are looking for …
Students, makers and craftsman who wish to volunteer and help promote scientific and technical culture by participating actively in the design, development and construction of showcases and stands for the exhibition tools and installations. For the first time, all installations will be created with the contribution of makers and hobbyists to prove that an open and shared culture can yield high quality, professional results. Participating in an important scientific event can be a stimulating, prestigious and educational experience.
