“Introducing young women to computer science is a social and economic imperative.” Last year, Prof. Filomena Ferrucci, President of the Computer Science Programme at the University of Salerno, welcomed the Coding Girls hackathon to her department [see interview].

"A few days ago (Nov 14), we once again hosted the Coding Girls initiative, promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and the United States Embassy in collaboration with Microsoft Italy," she tells La Repubblica daily. "About 200 young women from our region were involved and twenty of our students coached the younger participants.”

Filomena Ferrucci is one of ten Italians who has received a FacebookSoftware Test and Verification Award,” an international award presented to software engineers for innovative development projects.
