“[...] Gender plurality is a value for all of society; increasing the number of women in STEM and STEM professions can drive the entire economic system.” And that is why the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo adopted the National "Coding Girls" Programme developed by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale with the United States Diplomatic Mission to Italy and Microsoft Italy, which has been promoting coding in schools throughout Italy to help young women discover STEM. (The new edition of Coding Girls kicks off on October 21.) For over a year, the Compagnia di San Paolo has organised a three-year coding programme for over 600 young women from 10 high schools in Turin. “The effects have been so positive,” explains Mr. Profumo, “that we have decided to extend this experiment.” Indeed, after just one year, there has been a marked improvement in the competences of young women and especially in the perception of their abilities.

 

Yesterday’s issue of the Corriere della Sera, published an interview with Francesco Profumo, President of ACRI and the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, which addressed the value of strategic projects such as Coding Girls. “Increasing the number of women in STEM stimulates the entire economy.”
