Fondazione Mondo Digitale at About a City 2025

Today and tomorrow, 21 and 22 November, Fondazione Mondo Digitale is participating in About a City 2025, a two-day event hosted at Industrie Fluviali (Via del Porto Fluviale 35, Rome) and dedicated to urban transformation, new forms of citizenship and democratic participation processes in metropolitan contexts.

Journalist Onelia Onorati, who works on issues of digital facilitation and participatory design, will speak on behalf of FMD.

The initiative brings together social movements, administrators, researchers and third sector organisations to explore how cities can become places of social innovation, cooperation and shared administration. Public spaces, social infrastructure, new digital rights: About a City 2025 offers an open discussion on the challenges facing urban communities and the risks of exclusion linked to transformation processes.

Rethinking the city means starting from what already exists: the “social enzymes” that animate territories, civic presidia and collaborative practices that often operate far from the spotlight. It is from these experiences that authentic participation can arise, capable of truly influencing decisions and not being reduced to a mere slogan.

The programme addresses issues that are crucial for the future of our communities:

  • who defines the rules of participatory processes;
  • how to ensure that the ecological and economic transition does not remain merely superficial;
  • how to prevent digitalisation from becoming a new factor of inequality.

With its presence, Fondazione Mondo Digitale contributes to bringing to the forefront of the debate the role of digital citizenship, inclusive processes and skills for participation, essential elements for a more open, accessible and collaborative urban democracy.
