Grandparents on the Internet is the milestone digital literacy projects for over-sixties conceived and organized by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale.
As part of the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity amongst Generations, the Cremona FNP-CISL has organized this project locally in collaboration with the ITC Beltrami School and with the patronage of the Cremona Education Council.
The Project
The course, which is based on the intergenerational learning methodology, will be held in the IT lab at the ICT Beltrami School. All the participants (max 20) are FNP members. The courses will be taught by students and coordinated by a technology teacher. There will be an optimal student-to-teacher ratio.
School Lessons
The course lasts a total of 30 hours subdivided into 15 two-hour weekly lessons. At the end of the course, participants, grandparents, tutors and teachers all receive a certificate of attendance.
The schools that have already run the project deeply appreciate its educational value. In fact, they have inserted it into the official school curricula and give students credits for participation.
Didactic Content
The course programme, which addresses complete beginners, covers the ABC of computers in 15 lessons: from how to turn a PC on to web surfing, e-mails and social networks. Moreover, the course also addresses the use of various peripherals (cameras, scanners, etc.) as well as the use of new communication technology (mobile phones, digital TV, iPod, IPTV, etc.).
Each edition adds further multimedia work that the tutors and grandparents develop together: from the creation of an on-line dictionary of bygone games to a digital photo album of vintage photos.
