Here are a few passages from Anna Savarese’s presentation to the National Board of Legambiente for the presentation of the Nonnet – urban digital vegetable gardens Project, held yesterday in Pontecagnano.
“Think globally, act locally is the motto of Legambiente. It’s where we began. It’s vital to act on one’s own territory and have concrete situations on which to act, like we did with the Archaeological Park in Pontecagnano. The elderly, our white-haired youth, have been our most valuable tool. They have taught us how to keep a vegetable garden and to observe global problems (climactic change, greenhouse effect, water shortage) on the basis of concrete experience.
This project allows us to root the sense of agriculture and relationships amongst different age groups. We have had the good fortune to meet the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and this has allowed us to include digital issues in our agenda and interconnect all our social and urban vegetable gardens. We will learn from each other. The experience of the vegetable gardens in Cilento will be shared with those in Matera and this will allow us to create a vast “hands on” network of vegetable gardens. Back to nature meets the digital world: we hope to extend this project to the rest of the Campania Region.”
