The annual meeting of the third sector took place yesterday in Rome to continue the process begun last year with the road show for non-profit organisations that stopped in 8 cities and met with over 300 organisations. The objective is to accelerate the adoption of cloud computing thanks to the donation programme announced by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella at the last Davos Forum.
The "Technology for Good" Day was promoted by Microsoft in collaboration with the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, the Fondazione Cariplo and Techsoup, and the participating of many institutions and NGO representatives operating in a range of social areas.
The importance of technology as a catalyst for the development of the third sector and the entire country was underlined by Labour and Social Policy Minister Giuliano Poletti, who illustrated the work of the government to transform a sector that involves over 300,00 organisations (Istat Survey 2011).
“It is extremely positive,” Poletti points out, “that Microsoft has chosen to promote the diffusion of new technology in the non-profit world to support the growth of innovation. Initiatives such as this one provide a fundamental contribution to the development of the third sector, an objective that is at the foundation of the new governmental bill that was recently ratified by the Parliament.”
“This bill provides innovative measures to promote the active participation of individuals and drives a new social act, the creation of a new social policy system for a future based on an inclusive society that will fully exploit the energy and potential of our country through solidarity and subsidiarity,” Minister Poletti explains.
The event also served as an important opportunity to share experiences, projects and reflections on how technology can empower the third sector along with the experiences and best cases on how the diffusion of new technologies can provide concrete help in term of efficiency, productivity and innovation.
