The free video course from Ital.IA Lab for School helps teachers prepare for the new academic year with practical tools, operational resources and teaching case studies
The school year has come to an end, but for many headteachers and teachers, the summer offers a valuable opportunity to keep up to date, try out new tools and plan next year’s activities with greater peace of mind.
For those wishing to explore the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence in teaching, Ital.IA Lab for School – the programme promoted by Fondazione Mondo Digitale ETS and Microsoft Italia – offers a free video course, which can be taken at your own pace and is also available on the Sofia platform.
Designed for teachers at all levels, the course combines pedagogical reflection with practical applications, helping teachers to integrate artificial intelligence into their daily practice without compromising their educational role.
A practical course, to be followed at your own pace
The video course comprises six hours of asynchronous training, featuring video lessons, guided tutorials, workshops and materials that can be used immediately in the classroom. Upon completion of the course, an open badge is awarded by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, based on a validation methodology developed by Roma Tre University. The modules address some of the most relevant topics for schools today:
- instructional design with AI;
- personalised assessment and feedback;
- personalised learning;
- governance, policy and security;
- subject-specific applications for Italian, mathematics, civic education, art, music and foreign languages.
The aim is not to learn how to use a single tool, but to acquire a method for integrating artificial intelligence into teaching in a critical, responsible and inclusive manner.
AI as an ally in teaching
As explained in the workshop dedicated to Ital.IA Lab for School during RomeCup, artificial intelligence can support lesson planning, promote inclusion, assist in the development of the digital curriculum and stimulate critical thinking among pupils. However, it is the teacher who remains in charge of the educational process, helping pupils to distinguish between verified knowledge, opinions and AI-generated content.
This video course has been created precisely for this purpose: to offer practical tools for experimenting with artificial intelligence in the classroom, enhancing teachers’ professional skills and preparing schools for the challenges of the near future.
An investment of just a few hours over the summer can lead to new teaching opportunities throughout the school year.
