The Sea Procession

The Sea Procession

Today, World Oceans Day, the Second Operative Unit of the Sea Superintendence, together with artist Federica Di Carlo, invites schools by the seaside in the Province of Palermo and citizens to participate in a shared action at the Arsenale della marina regia.

Anyone who would like to participate can come to the Arsenale, this morning, with a glass of Palermo seawater from their town and pour it into the silver cistern that will be placed in the first hall of the building.

The idea is to recreate a true “ritual,” a procession that from the sea will reach the second floor of the ancient “Fabbrica della Real Marina” to celebrate the fundamental value of the sea by becoming an active part in a contemporary art installation.

At the end of the procession, the cistern will be sealed to conserve a part of Palermo’s sea water, saved by its citizens. The water will become an integral part of Federica Di Carlo’s environmental installation - “We Lost the Sea” – dedicated to water. The installation will be open from June 18 (inauguration) to September 15, 2018 [see news: The Earth’s Breath].
