The protagonists of the first appointment of "Science for Young Women" are physics and computer science experts: Astrophysicist Sandra Savaglio, Data Mining Expert Fosca Giannotti, and Professors Chiara Bodei and Nicoletta De Francesco.

The meeting, which will be held today, October 25 at 3:30 pm, in the “Titta Ruffo Hall” at the Verdi Theatre, is organised by the University of Pisa with the patronage of the City Council. The event will be moderated by Journalist Concita De Gregorio and opened by Elettra Stradella (Department of Law), President of the University Guarantee Committee.

The objective of "Science for Young Women" is to promote gender equality in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) as part of "Informatica50," a cycle of events that celebrates the 50th anniversary of the first degree programme in computer science in Italy at the university that acted as a catalyser of talent and technological transformation.

"Science for Young Women" will continue on November 11 with the Pisa Coding Girls Programming Marathon for high schools, promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and the United States Embassy in Italy with Microsoft Italy to achieve equal opportunities in computer science and technology.

As part of the "Informatica50" cycle, it will also be possible to visit “Hello World!” (Polo delle Benedettine di Pisa, Piazza San Paolo a Ripa d’Arno 16, free entrance), a multimedia exhibition on 150 years of computer science history documenting the progress from gigantic mainframe computers to miniature smartphones.
