School of Italian

Project SI – School of Italian 2 provided citizenship lessons for over 400 foreigners who now reside in Abruzzo, but come from 22 different countries. Ranging from traditional lessons to distance learning courses, the project provided over 2400 hours of custom-tailored training, thanks to services such as babysitting.

The Project is financed by the European Fund for the Integration of Third Country Nationals and is promoted by the Regione Abruzzo (lead partner) in collaboration with the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, the Abruzzo Regional School Department, CTPs in Avezzano, Nereto, Pescara, Pescasseroli, Popoli, Silvi and Sulmona and the “G.D'Annunzio Univeristy" of Chieti-Pescara.

Conceived as a follow-up to the first edition, which ended in June 2013, “School of Italian 2” has become a regional model for the education of migrants and the fulfilment of their official requirements as set by Integration Agreements and EU residence requirements for long-term residents.

On Tuesday, June 10 (10 am), the project results at 9 months will be presented at the Regione Abruzzo in Pescara (Viale G. Bovio, 425 – Sala Blu). The official welcome will be given by Luciano Longobardi, Manager of the Office for Incoming Policy and Integration of Immigrants as well as Social Exclusion and Poverty Office of the Regione Abruzzo. The event will be introduced and coordinated by Mirta Michilli, Director General of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale.

Speakers include: Ilaria Graziano, Design and Development, Fondazione Mondo Digitale, who will illustrate the project; Franco Pittau, Centro studi e ricerche Idos will provide an overview of integration levels and the Abruzzo job market; Antonio Pacinelli, Professor of Statistics at the “G. D’Annunzio” University of Chieti-Pescara, will analyse the impact of the project on beneficiaries. The floor will then be turned over to the protagonists: teachers, tutors, school administrators and foreign citizens. The meeting will end with the representatives of the Prefectures who will present the results of the governance network created with the inter-institutional network agreement promoted by the Regione Abruzzo.

All the didactic material developed by the project is available in the Resources section of the FMD website, on the Phyrtual.org on-line environment for sharing projects and knowledge, socializing and developing social innovation experiences, as well as on the Rai Educational site in the Italian for Foreigners section.
