“Learning. And learning to understand each other.” This is how Debora Cavallo [@Debora_FMD] from the Fondazione Mondo Digitale ha described she monitored at IIS Evangelista Torricelli in Rome, the school directed by Anna Maria Scala. The class (4E) worked with refugees from two Roman reception structures on a digital and functional literacy course for migrants [see news: Promoting Inclusion].

"After the initial embarrassment, the high school students and the refugees got along splendidly. The learning environment was lively, filled with music and the rhythms and languages of all the participants involved in the programme. They all shared their personal stories and experience with great interest and reciprocal respect,” explains Debora. The new class, in fact, includes 15 students from ten different countries, mostly African.

“I was struck by the story of a boy who had been beaten up, probably in a racist attack. Today, he was here and happy about it and grateful for it. Notwithstanding everything, he was happy to be in Italy,” Debora adds.

The interviews were filmed live with the lively class atmosphere in the background.
