The Educational Daywill be held on October 4 (10 am – 4 pm) at the Rome “Palazzo dei Congressi” as part of the first European Maker Faireorganized by Asset Camera with the support of the Tecnopolo and in collaboration with the Fondazione Mondo Digitale for the educational area. An educational workshop on “School towards Enterprise” will be held by Alfonso Molina, Professor of Technology Strategy and the University of Edinburgh and Scientific Director of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. The Robocup Junior winners will engage in competitions, demos and simulations.
They deal in technology, design, art, sustainability and social innovation. They are creative, innovative, cooperative and aim to solve problems. They are the Makers, the 21st century “Leonardos” that share knowledge, competences and the many resources they have learned in school. The first edition of the Makers Faire in Rome (October 3-6, 2013)is dedicated to them.
Event organizers Asset Camera and Tecnopolo have assigned the Education theme to the Fondazione Mondo Digitale that has promoted the role of Educational Robotics in school as a key tool to acquire the competences necessary to live and work in the 21st century. In fact, the logo of the Maker Faire is a robot!
The main appointment for the Educational Day that will be held on Friday October 4 (11:30 am – 1:00 pm) is a workshop for teachers and students entitled “School towards Enterprise: how to discovers one’s talents and opportunities in a continuously changing world.” Alfonso Molina, Professor of Technology Strategy and the University of Edinburgh and Scientific Director of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale will address this complex issue and propose solutions to tackle it.
From 10 am to 4 pm, the RoboMakers, the students who programmed the winning robots at the 7th edition of the RomeCup – Excellence in Robotics in Rome, will showcase the potential of Robotics for education and national development. Over 600 Roman students who have already experimented the enthusiasm and the efficacy of learning through technology will cheer them on. Football Robots who play autonomously without being remote controlled will improvise amongst the stands, while Dancing Robots will dance to the rhythm of music. Rescue Robots will introduce the Service Robotics sector and demonstrate how robots can be used in all types of emergencies.
Moreover, with the Maker Faire 2013, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale will also launch its Local Coalition for Digital Jobs as part of the European Commission’s initiative Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs.
