Amongst the winners at the World Robocup Junior Championship in Eindhoven (NL) are the teams selected during the last edition of the RomeCup 2013 – Excellence in Robotics in Rome promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale.
Itis Archimede from Catania placed first both in the Cospace Dance and the Superteam Dance categories. The latter groups three teams at a time as only one afternoon is available to reprogramme the robots and their choreographies. The Superteam victory featured the collaboration of ESA Robot from Portugal and Naruko from Japan.
Other Italian teams participating in the World Championships were Itis G. Galilei and Itis Von Neumann both from Rome.
The first team (with three victories and two defeats) placed secon, while the latter made the quarterfinals. They placed respectively third and fourth in the big field super teams.
For soccer, the teams were awarded the special 'Best Teamwork' Award.
"Teamwork is one of the competences that is developed through educational robotics,” explains Alfonso Molina, Professor of Technology Strategy at the University of Edinburgh and Scientific Director of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. "We are very happty to see that amongst the winners of Robocup Junior there are many of the students selected at RomeCup 2013. It’s also thanks to them that our event reaches such a high level of excellence."
