The call for the second edition of the Most Promising Researcher in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Award closed yesterday with over 250 applications. As part of RomeCup 2024, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale ETS in collaboration with the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome is promoting the second edition of the award dedicated to young researchers in collaboration with Italian Tech and the Gruppo GEDI.
The aim of the Research Award 2024 to recognize the passion, dedication, perseverance, vision, creativity, and talent of young individuals working in Italian research centres and universities. A jury, composed by academics and representatives of the technical-scientific world, nominated by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome will select the winner. The €20,000 award will be presented to doctoral students in all fields and/or PhD researchers (who earned their degree no more than three years ago) working in research centres, agencies, institutes, universities, and other public and private structures (including physical individuals).
The awards ceremony will be held as part of "The Wonders of Artificial Intelligence" event with Riccardo Luna, Director of Italian Tech, as host at the Capitoline Museums (Sala Esedra , March 21, 8.30-11:00 pm) during RomeCup 2024. Awards will be presented by Eugenio Guglielmelli, Rector of the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome, and Alfonso Molina, Scientific Director of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. Over 250 applications were submitted, almost double compared to the first edition.

Last year, the jury awarded the prize to Marta Lagomarsino, a doctoral student at the Polytechnic of Milan in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Technology, for a project focusing on bio-cooperative robotics (CoBots) to improve the quality and safety of working life, a topic of high strategic importance both at the national and international level [see news: Marta Lagomarsino Wins RomeCup Award 2023].
