The projects that are being submitted to the new edition of the Global Junior Challenge also address global challenges such as environmental sustainability. Today, our virtual journey through projects and stories takes us to Lombardy for Project Solar - Studenti On Line Agiscono per le Rinnovabili (On-line Students Act for Renewables) submitted by the Liceo Scientifico Giovanni Gandini in Lodi in the “Up to 18 Years Old” Category.

Solar is a feasibility study for a photovoltaic plant on the school roof. The project, which is organised on the basis of the Agenda 2030 sustainable development goals, involves various students coordinated by Prof. Paolo Egidio Camera. The students worked on the project for five months (Oct. 2020 – March 2021) with PCs, notebooks, tablets and smartphones, as well as more complex technology such as drones and thermal cameras. All the studies, videos, presentations, renderings, and 2D and 3D drawings of the school building were developed with professional software.

“Notwithstanding the Covid-19 pandemic, the project allowed students to keep in touch and collaborate on issues related to sustainable development, even outside of school hours. And it was one of the few school projects that remained active throughout the pandemic,” explains the Art History Professor.
