Recycling and Reusing

The greater request for devices needed to pursue work and educational activities caused by the Covid-19 health emergency has driven the Computer Recycling Workshop at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym to work overtime.

The workshop regenerates the hardware and software of used computers that have been donated by companies and private citizens. After regenerating and testing them, the PCs are donated to elderly centres, schools, families and even individuals who need them for distance learning and smart working. Besides computers, the workshop also recycles tablets, monitors, webcams and speakers.

Open software – the Linux operating system and the OpenOffice Package (including all standard office programmes for writing, spreadsheets, presentations, databases, graphics, etc.) – are installed on the computers, that are distributed together with clear and simple instructions for use.

The Computer Recycling Workshop is coordinated by Valentina Gelsomini, educator and Technical Area Manager, with the support of Davide Alosi (24), maker, Robotics and AI university students and educator.

The workshop operates as a service accepting incoming offers (donated devices) and requests (regenerated devices). Information on donors and beneficiaries, which are useful to the service, are gathered on a single on-line Module.

Quick exchanges can also be conducted through the Telegram messaging service: @Fmdigitale.

Le informazioni di donatori e beneficiari, utili per attivare al meglio il servizio, sono raccolte con un unico MODULO da compilare on line.
