“Ready to Set Off Again”

Yesterday, the first course organised by Project Amongst Generations. United for Work ended in Ascoli. The course was held at the IIS Fermi-Sacconi-Ceci school that kicked off the fourth edition of the project promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and CNA Pensionati, and starting from this year with the collaboration of  Facebook Italy [see news: Kick Off in Ascoli].

The last event of the course was a company visit. Accompanied by Eleonora Curatola and the local CNA Directors, students and craftsmen aged 60 and over visited DecaMec, a metalworking company formed by ten partners who bought out a closing company to save its workers.

“The students were both interested and fascinated, especially by the design and engineering more than the metalworking itself,” explains Eleonora Curatola. "However, even the over-60s were very curious about the technical aspects and asked many questions, just like they did in class about computers and smartphones."

Head Mistress Patrizia Palanca, the President of the Ascoli CNA Pensionati, Alfiero Cafini, and Prof. Giampiero Damiani are fully satisfied by the results achieved by the project and are ready for a new edition. In fact, even the decision to involve two older students, who had already experienced intergenerational learning, proved successful to help the younger students at their first experience as digital tutors. The older students worked as supervisors and helped their peers when they encountered problems.

Eleonora Curatola’s interviews capture the many points of view of the protagonists at the end of the experience.

Alfiero Cafini, the new President of CNA Pensionati in Ascoli, was a “student” last year, while this year he involved and coordinated members and is now ready to kick off with a new edition.

Prof. Giampiero Damiani at IIS Fermi-Sacconi-Ceci in Ascoli, who coordinated didactic activities, was fully satisfied of the project results and tells us about a nice success story about one of the most vivacious and difficult students in the class.

“The two hours flew by,” says Marcello. "Now, I feel far more mature,” confesses Paolo. The relation between the two was truly fantastic!
