The Power of Experience

The Rome Chamber of Commerce participates in the “Alternance Stories” Award, an initiative promoted by Unioncamere to promote and give greater visibility to school-work programmes devised and developed by students and tutors in second-degree schools. Awards have been presented to the best audiovisual narrations developed by schools as part of their school-work programmes (Bill N. 107/2015). The “Emanuela Loi” School in Nettuno (Rome) was awarded the prize for technical institutes with their work on Project “Coding Girls” developed in collaboration with the Fondazione Mondo Digitale.

Project Coding Girls was developed to promote gender equality in the fields of science and technology and attract as many young women as possible to technological studies and professions. “In fact, computer science still offers a lot of well-paid jobs that young women should strive to fill,” explains Prof. Elena Maria Brachetti, school spokesperson for the project. “One experience is all that is required to defeat a commonplace and ignite a passion” is the firm belief of this professor who has formed a team of 35 young women and introduced coding into primary and first-degree secondary schools through a range of events (Week of Code, Hour of Code, Day of Young Women).
