OpenSpace, which was selected by Con i Bambini for the Fund for Contrasting the Educational Poverty of Minors (Bando Adolescenza), is planned, implemented and organised by the FMD in four Phyrtual Innovation Gyms in four schools, based on the original model of the Phyrtual Innovation Gym on Via del Quadraro 102. The project allows the FMD to introduce new areas to a model that has proven extremely efficient to contrast educational poverty, reduce school drop-outs, re-orient NEETs towards more efficient learning and working opportunities, promote lifelong learning and provide spaces for the educational community to exchange experiences and drive change. The gyms include a range of digital environments (Fab Lab, Coding Lab, etc.) that are either used in common or custom-tailored, based on local conditions.
Last week, we told you about what was happening in Bari, where Fiammetta Castagnini held a workshop in the Video Lab under development [see news: Zooming in on Educational Poverty and The Megalodon and the Future].
Today, we move to the suburbs of Milan at the Istituto comprensivo Madre Teresa di Calcutta, directed by Carla Federica Gallotti, to follow the development of another Phyrtual Innovation Gym. Here, the first environment is Fab Lab, hosted in the Science Lab, which is being transformed into a multi-function facility.
The Phyrtual Innovation Gym in construction in the south-eastern suburbs of the city [Forlanini-Ponte Lambro-Rogoredo] will also include a Video Lab, a Robotics Lab and a Coding Lab, which will be hosted in the Computer Lab, and a Media Art Lab in the Arts Classroom.
Matteo Viscogliosi, designer, maker and Fab lab Coordinator at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym in Rome, is back from Milan and tells us about the progress. And he is already set to leave again to hold the first digital manufacturing labs.
During the week, Matteo Viscogliosi will host a range of digital manufacturing and storytelling labs for both students and teachers at the school, as well as in the connected high school. The didactic activities are coordinated by Prof. Miriam Petruzzelli, while logistic support and local project coordination is managed by Simonetta Tomassi from Action Aid, the lead partner of Project OpenSpace.
Con gli altri partner racconteremo le diverse Activity sul The Percorsiconibambini.it Blog will document the activities organised by the projects selected by “Con i Bambini” as part of the Fund for Contrasting the Educational Poverty of Minors.
