A Passionate School

Our weekly appointment with “Our School” Professors takes us to Tuscany, today, to meet Silvia Granucci, who has worked as a pedagogic coordinator for kindergartens and pre-school and is now a teacher at the Istituto comprensivo Lucca Quinto, a primary school "without schoolbags." Silvia, who has a degree in economics, is constantly on the lookout for new motivating, heterogenous, qualitative and enriching didactical experiences. She is part of the digital team and, since October 2020, has been actively collaborating with “Our School” Professors on the development of inclusive and innovative courses.

As usual, we share a short presentation video and then an interview conducted by Ilaria Gaudiello, who coordinates the works of the open source community of teachers and educators.

INTERVIEW

Silvia, can you tell us about the values that guide you as a teacher and how you imagine the school of the future?

My idea of school is based on the belief that teachers are at the service of children, and not the other way around. Schools must be schools for life. A passionate school, not a flat one, must be rich in experiences (digital, tactile, natural) that develop divergent thinking. I dream about an educational paradigm as that conceived by Sir Ken Robinson, a school where we try to awaken our students, igniting their senses and bringing them into contact with what is happening in the world. I try to impassion students every day to see the spark that will lead children to create their future, rather than suffering it. I want to provide my skills to others as a true educational community must do.

Why did you decided to join “Our School” and what course are you working on with the other teachers in our community?

When the Fondazione Mondo Digitale welcomed me to this project, I received the energy I needed. Sharing passions and skills with colleagues from all over Italy has been motivating and enriching. The project that we developed addresses a current issue that I am very fond of: the Agenda 2030. Using the Genially App, we created an eco-sustainable treasure hunt that actively involved the students and gave us the opportunity to extend the project with interdisciplinary sections.

Do you have a dream project that you would like to share with us?

I would like to propose labs (in presence) in primary and secondary school classes at my school, involving “Our School” Professors in a sort of “National Erasmus” programme. Innovating teachers could organise labs in the interested schools, involving various classes and driving active, cooperative, fun, and motivating courses.
