Province of Como, Como Chamber of Commerce, Como Provincial School Department and Fondazione Mondo Digitale have formed an alliance with schools and elderly centres to promote digital literacy amongst the elderly. Thanks to student tutors, elders can learn to use a computer, surf the web and use the National Service Charter. On Tuesday, December 18, a final event will be held to celebrate the great success of this project (11 am at IIS Jean Monnet in Mariano Comense, Como).

IC Villaguardia, after having discovered the potential of the Service Charter, has requested to become a distribution centre for the regional cards. Grandpa Santo, together with the students in classes II and III, has discovered that he can get a petrol discount with the Service Charter. Grandma Marina has discovered the difference between PIN and PUK codes. Students from classes III A and III B at IIS J. Monnet are teaching the elders to book doctor’s appointments from home.

Fifteen schools in Come and its province participate in Grandparents on the Internet in Como, a project promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale in collaboration with the Province of Como, the Como Chamber of Commerce and the Como Provincial School Department with the intergenerational learning model. Student tutors teach over-sixties to use computers, e-mail, e-gov services together with coordinating teachers.

On Tuesday December 18, a final event will be held at IIS Jean Monnet in Mariano Comense (Como) at 11 am together with project partners, students and over-sixties to review the successful initiative.
