Since the 1970s, the Moroccan community has been one of the main protagonists of the migratory phenomenon to Italy. According to the Statistical Immigration Dossier 2013 over 513,000 Moroccan citizens are now living in Italy. It’s the largest immigrant community.
During the decade ranging from 2001 to 2010, the Moroccan community in Italy doubled transforming the migratory phenomenon into a family and intergenerational project, further consolidated ba a new generation of immigrants. What has occurred more recently? Are they still mainly concentrated in Northern Italy?
The situation is summarized in a new report entitled La comunità marocchina in Italia. Un ponte sul Mediterraneo (The Moroccan Community in Italy. A Mediterranean Bridge) conducted by the Centro Studi e Ricerche Idos on behalf of the Moroccan Ministry for Foreign Residents. The report will be presented today, January 29 from 11 am to 1 pm, at the Foreign Press Association in via dell’Umiltà 83/C (Piazza Colonna).
The meeting will also provide an opportunity to present Iprit - Immigrazione Percorsi di Regolarità in Italia (Regular Immigration Opportunities in Italy), a joint project with the Centro studi e ricerche Idos, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and Anolf Italia to promote informed and aware migration. The Ministry of the Interior Department for Civil Liberty and Immigration funds the project.
