Media Art. Towards a New Definition of Arts” is the title of the publication that goes with the “From Body to Mind. New Generations of Italian Media Artists” Exhibition inaugurated yesterday at the Centrale Montemartini and Rome Città Educativa.

The publication, which gathers the reflections of major international media art experts, is an indispensable tool for experts, enthusiasts and professors. Published by the Gli Ori, the volume is edited by Valentino Catricalà, Artistic Director of the Media Art Festival (Rome, Feb. 25 – March 1, 2015).

The volume is divided into two parts. It begins with essays by international experts, while the second part is a catalogue of the works presented by artists (Aye Aye, Alessio Chierico, Dehors/Audela, Iocose, Giacomo Lion, Giovanni Mezzedimi, Simone Pappalardo, Max Serradifalco, Daniele Spanò, Lino Strangis, Danilo Torre). This is the first attempt to present a full overview of the work of Italian artists in the framework of the international debate, an absolute novelty for the Italian artistic scenario.

A double preface by two international experts, Stephen Partridge and Sandra Lischi, is followed by essays from prominent scholars and artists, including: Sean Cubitt, Oliver Grau, Roc Perés, Elaine Shemilt, Marco Maria Gazzano, Domenico Quaranta, Alessandro Amaducci and Giulio Latini. The volume also provides visibility to the research by young scholars: Laura Leuzzi, Valentina Ravaglia, Veronica D’Auria, Maurizio Marco Tozzi and Elisa Cuciniello.

"Media Arts and Education for Life. The Vision of the FMD’s Phyrtual InnovationGym” is the title of the contribution by Alfonso Molina, Professor of Technology Strategy, University of Edinburgh and Scientific Director. It addresses the role of art in the Life Education Model developed by Prof Molina to align education and training to the challenges posed by the 21st century.

From Body to Mind. New Generations of Italian Media Artists“ opened yesterday at the Centrale Montemartini Museum to provide a new window on to the undiscovered potential of technology, beyond any functional and commercial use.
