Legal Immigration Routes

Morocco is the foremost non-EU country that has the largest number of immigrants to Italy: over half a million individuals. Thus, efficiently collaborating with this country to manage the immigration flows is an absolute priority, especially in terms of the project creation of an integrated mobility space between the two shores of the Mediterranean. Project "I.P.R.IT. Immigrazione Percorsi di Regolarità in Italia” (Legal Immigration Routes to Italy) promoted by the Centro Studi e Richerche IDOS aims to improve immigration by providing information and awareness-raising tools.

The main project activities include:

   Creating a specific grant and guide to provide news and information on Italian immigration in a language comprehensible to Moroccan public structures and associations (French);
   Distribute publications in Morocco such as an Arabic glossary of immigration and asylum terms (already published in Italian and French) to also introduce the situation of Moroccan immigrants to Italy;
   Put Moroccan and Italian public structures and associations into closer contact on the issue of Moroccan immigrants;
   Exploit new technology and especially social media as a tool to interconnect the two shores of the Mediterranean to implement a low-cost means for informed immigration.

The Fondazione Mondo Digitale, which has been working on the integration of immigrants and refugees, will collaborate with the Centro Studi e Ricerche IDOS. In particular, it will be responsible for communication and awareness-raising activities via social media and the transformation into slides of a simplified manual on Italian legislation on immigration.

Project activities kicked off in August and will end in December 2013 with a Final Conference and event in Casablanca or Rabat (Morocco).
