Learning by Surfing

Developed by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and published by the Regione Emilia Romagna – General Direction for Organization, Personnel, Information Systems and Telematics, the publication of the "Navigando s'impara - Guida ai siti internet" (Learning by Surfing – Guide to the Internet) is the final successful step for Project PINN - Pane e Internet per Nonni e Nipoti (Bread and Internet for Grandparents and Grandchildren).

Project PINN is part of a wider drive for digital literacy Pane e Internet that the Region has been promoting. It successfully employs the intergenerational literacy model developed by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. Young students serve as tutors to teach over-sixties how to use PCs and new technologies.

Agostina Betta, Head of the Project for the Emilia Romagna Region, explains the success of the initiative and why the Region decided to produce the "Learning by Surfing" Guide.

“It’s always successful when we ask the students to teach. Both the teachers and the students are very pleased with this scheme,” explained Betta. “We firmly believe in digital literacy and have witnessed an incredibly high request for training by elders."
